so there is talk of a national ID card... with an RFID chip...

RFID= Radio Frequency IDentification

it sorta freaks me out... these cards can be read from anywhere- it can be in your wallet- and someone (hopefully just the gov) would be able to read it with out you knowing... it could be used to track where you go each day- how long you spend in a store...

ya know when a bolt of lightning hits your car.. and you dont die... (yeah, im sure its happened to EVERYONE) but that is basicly an example of a faraday cage-- it also can keep radio frenquencys from entering, or leaving the cage area...

yes- i dont post often enought- maybe this will be the moment where i turn over a new leaf...maybe not...

things i've been thinking about...

so, the military needs more people... people need jobs.. people need health care....

well, i hate to say it, but military service would have been good for me...

over the past 30 years, adolescence had been extended. what do i mean? think about it- after WWII all these young people come back after serving- they've grown up- they have families to take care of, they want to build an adult life-- now... colleges are day care centers... and... serving created the GI education bill-- and established a basic system of healthcare--some pretty good programs if you ask me... change the Montgomery GI bill, and really cover the cost of an education- cover the cost of their books, housing and school-- 2 years of college, 1 year service, 2 years of college (graduate)- then the option to continue for an advanced degree -- 1 years service (between advance degree) or 2-3 years of service-- those that go for an advanced degree- will continue to have education and service divided up- depending on the advanced education they choose...

You want a stonger military- you make it the best deal around-- we could have an army of doctors, and engineers if its really provided a real future for its recruits-- both public and private universities are given HUGE grants already-... eh...

Prescription drug diversion.

I believe a huge problem in this country are prescription drugs- I believe many people truly do need and correctly use these drugs- and many people abuse their relationship with their doctors to gain prescriptions which then then sell. I also believe that many people horde their prescriptions (what do i mean here? i mean that they have extra medication left over, and they choose to put it aside, and 'self-prescribe' at a later date... ).

Recently, a company came out with this 'brilliant' idea to mark the RX bottles with small RFID tags-- sold as a way to 'prevent drug diversion'. It's just stupid- people are not only are those who steal these medications are going to take them out of the bottle (which is dangerous in its self). But these tags are only in the pharmacy. YES this is a good way for shipping and keeping track while in the hands of the pharmacy- this does nothing for the drugs being diverted after they have been dispensed! HOW does one make it harder-less appealing to sell their medications?

We start marking these pills... when the pill is taken out of the bottle at the pharmacy, it becomes stamped with a consumer ID- this pill is for ______ person. If a medication is found with an individual who it is not marked for- it becomes easy for the police to track the history of the pill-- the person who this pill is prescribed has a responsibility to report if the pills have been stolen. Many individuals who indeed sell off their prescriptions - realize how hard it is to be caught- because it is so easy to get away with, people continue to sell these prescriptions. People who have sold medications that have led to injury will now be able to be held responsible for their crime.

For the first time it would be possible to go after the 'dealers' -- to go after those who are distributing these medications! Many individuals would rethink the potential losses if they are caught- they must worry about who they sell it to, and then who they might sell/give it to.

YES, there are ways to get around this- by powdering the pill (which would make it far less appealing to the black market buyer -- purity and dose are no longer clear) or attempting to remove the pharmacy mark.

these prescribed medications can be an easy gateway drug- because of their controlled purity - the user knows exactly what they are getting-- it is easy to rationalize the experimentation into these drugs when purity and dose are guaranteed, and then the rationalization of trying other drugs is far easier.

So! another solution to this problem....the active ingredient is coated in a plastic shell- this plastic cell will not break down in the GI tract unless there is a specific enzyme present- this enzyme is not naturally produced in the human body, it does not interact with the body-- this enzyme can only continue where there is a food source- this food source is the plastic (or similar material) in which the active ingredient is coated in. this medication will only be released into the GI tract with this catalyst enzyme present. BECAUSE the life span of the catalyst enzyme is dependent upon the continued introduction of a food source- once the prescription has been stopped, the enzyme will no longer be able to survive- when a pill is taken when the enzyme is not present, the active ingredient will pass through the GI tract without interacting with the body.
that person who the medication has been given to- will not be able to store their medications for future use - because they will become useless-- giving/selling this medication to others is not an option, because they will not have the enzyme needed to consume the drug. Not only does this make it very difficult for the diversion of the medications, it removes the self prescribing behavior that may occur when they have an excess of pills/ old prescriptions.

A method like this would be ideal with the more abused drugs- to make this a requirement of commonly used medications would defeat the system--would require several different mixes to be on the market- the catalyst that is used for painkillers, shouldn't be available to the general public for use with antibiotics/ antidepressants.

Food marked for disaster relief- from the UN (or similar) can be stolen and then sold in the black market- creating an ingredient that will 'mark' that this foodstuff is from the UN will make it harder for black marketeers to abuse the system.

Air dispersed biodegradable flechettes! its brilliant! Suspending iron (any other high density mix that breaks down quickly) within cellulose (or something similar)- would breakdown, and oxidize quickly in most environments. While the classic flechettes would ruin a field- and require a great deal of work to make the area workable again- these biodegradable rounds would shorten this time and energy greatly.. with the one time use, there would be little fear that others would be able to salvage the weapon for other use.... eh....

Gym that has a laundrymat-- you go to the gym, put your laundry in- move your laundry into the dryer- and shower- poof! your laundry has been done! - include the laundry costs in the gym membership- each person can do ...3 loads of laundry a week (which no one would do). eh.

---PROCTECTING OUE BORDER--
Paint landmines....come on- give me a second-- the mine will be triggered, and a fine mist will be introduced to the air in that area- the "paint mist" will be a non toxic chemical that will stain the skin and clothing for X months- 1) this will introduce a new level of paranoia for those comming accoss the border- knowing that they will easily be identified by authorities- when looking for a job/misc. 2) those citizens who have this chemical marking may be involved with the illegal boarding crossings.

the landmines will trigger a radio signal- this beacon will not only inform border guards that the mine needs to be reset, but will also show the path of where people are traveling... especially if people are traveling at night- it wil be hard for those to identify potential mines from misc environmental items. .... eh...

propaganda--- give the impression that the area is contaminated (NBC)- it might scare more than a few people way--

years back they made a pill- it was for sleep, and it consisted of a fast acting barbituate (to get you to sleep) a slower acting barbituate (to keep you asleep) and an amphetamine (to wake you up)-- why isnt this still around? it seems like a pretty good idea...

society- judeo-christian / western religions-- does anyone understand the spred of christianity in the roman empire? i guess not. Lets think about this- the leader of the Roman empire decides to become christian over night- you, a vasel, a prince of the roman empire, do you stick with your bundle of gods (that have clearly done you well) or realizing that you owe a great deal to the empire, decide to no make waves, and agree with this choice? hmmm.

yeah... and of couse, people can say that God/christian god made this happen-- its still soemthing to think about.

How to end opium production in Afghanistan

Opium is a problem- farmers in Afghanistan have been growing poppies for centuries-- they are familiar with the crop, and have little reason to switch to other crops--

How does a government convince farmers to stop growing an illegal crop? Should the fields be burned, year after year?

-the US should buy the opium produced by the farmers, at a higher rate than those who intend to buy it for heroin production
-- farmers should be paid in cash, and farm equipment (to aid them in converting their crop)
----the new crop will also be bought by the US military for X years, showing that converting will be a profitable solution not just for now but in the future
----the opium must be bought from the farmer producing the opium, not collected by local groups-- for fear of diversion of payment to the farmers
--the raw opium can be sold (discounted) to pharmaceutical companies who already buy opium for drug production
----while a working at a loss, some of the cost will be recouped

-While it may take years, and cost a great deal-

-We can not tell these people to just stop-

-We are taking away their lively hood- and offering less than what they currently have-

Why are these people producing opium? to turn the west into addicts? No, they are producing a crop that has demand, and this demand creates a price, and this money will buy them food for their family. One can not say to these farmers that they are evil, or immoral; they are trying to survive-- and we should support that.

if a president would take meetings with regular people- 10 min here, 10 min there-
lets say...

President __ comes to Boston- his office allows people to put their name in a lottery, and X number of people can come in and talk to the President about what they think he should hear. Not a media event! I doubt this would make any difference in policies, but it would connect the president to the people-- democrat, republican or anything else, they are people who have something to say. Maybe it's a time for the President to push the weight of the office aside; maybe it's a chance for people to feel special; or maybe its something that a president should do. It doesn't need to be something done every day, or even every week- something thats just done every now and then.
